Support Dee and Kelsey

On Mayday two Anti-Fascists were arrested in San Francisco, after a confrontation with a group of Nazis after an anti immigration protest.The bourgeoisie media, the police, and the nazis have once again shown they have no problems working together to criminalize those who struggle. At this point, the movement here in the states has been stretched thin due to the bulk of arrests that resulted from an unprecedented and exciting year of May Day actions and thus comrades in the Bay Area need everyone's help to secure the release of the two imprisoned anti-fascists. Immediate solidarity and support is needed and should be demonstrated incessantly because it affirms and expands who we are, what we do, and if we struggle together, what we can become!
No Pasaran!
Our Solidarity is a weapon!

People on the ground in San Francisco are asking anyone that can to please send money so we can bail our comrades out of jail. The best way to send donations is via Paypal to support [at] antiracistaction.org. You can also send well-concealed cash or checks or money orders (please leave the "pay to" section blank) to:

On The Prowl reboot

On The Prowl was a publication formerly distributed by the Anti-Racist Action chapter in Toronto. In tribute, we have used the name for this blog (and for an accompanying yet to be published print version).On The Prowl was initiated to report on international anarchist news with a focus on anti-fascist and anti-racist organizing in the Mid-Atlantic states. We hope to serve as a center of information on organizing and action in our region against racism and for a just, liberatory world.

The Greater Pittsburgh Anarchist Collective is hard at work planning this year's ARA Conference. It is our hope that this year's conference be welcoming to a wide-range of antifascists, radicals, and all those fighting for a classless free society. We wanted to make it a specific point that we want this conference to be attended by more than just chapters of the Anti-Racist Action Network. Our collective is always seeking to expand antifascist and anti-authoritarian struggle and we hope that this conference can be utilized to that end.

The conference will be held over 4 days in beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We'll be meeting just two weeks after the G20 descends on our city with its vileness and capitalist insanity. With any luck the momentum of resistance created during the G20 will carry over to our conference, further building and expanding this movement. Officially planned activities will include workshops, social events, meals, general discussions, caucuses, and the decision-making sessions for the ARA Network. Spontaneous workshops may also be held if space permits.

Keep an eye out on our website at www.antiracistaction.org for updates and more detailed information about the conference that is coming. If you are interested in hosting a workshop or helping with facilitation please send us an e-mail at araconference09@hushmail.com.
We hope to see all of you there so we can share our ideas, visions, projects, and strategies. Now let's get down to business.

ANNOUNCING THE 15TH ANNUAL ANTI-RACIST ACTION NETWORK CONFERENCE!

During the weekend of October 9th-12th, the Anti-Racist Action Network will be holding its 15th annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA. We are
inviting all members of Anti-Racist Action as well as all anti-fascists who agree with our 4 Points of Unity (see the end).

The conference, taking place over 4 days, will include ARA's annual plenary, caucuses and discussion on current issues facing
antifascists. Various workshops and several social events are also planned. Organizations will be tabling all weekend as well.

Please note that only Network-affiliated chapters will be allowed to attend the private sessions of the plenary. All registered attendees
may come to the public portions. If you are a part of a non-affiliated chapter or collective that wants to become affiliated with ARA-NET, please see the organizers as soon as you arrive. All friends of ARA are welcome and encouraged to participate in the rest of the weekend.

We are envisioning this conference as a gathering of all dedicated anti-fascists -whether in Anti-Racist Action or not - and would like to see this year's conference include as many people and new ideas as possible. The ARA Network has had a very interesting year, with member collectives publishing multiple periodical publications, opening social centers, organizing demonstrations, and combatting local fascist groups. We hope that you will come and add to the momentum!

If you are new to anti-fascism, please come and learn from our experience (and help us open our eyes to new possibilities);

If you are a former member, please come and get back in touch with us;

If you are an unaffiliated chapter - for whatever reason - come to the conference, meet other antifascists and take the opportunity to learn
more about ARA-NET and what benefits there are to being a part of the Network.

Over the next few weeks, we will be confirming the details of the conference and will send out a registration form and more specific
details. For now, please mark the date on your calendar and plan to join us in Pittsburgh for our annual conference!

Hope to see YOU there!

In solidarity,
The Anti-Racist Action Conference Planners

anti-racists defend PGH streets.

Late Saturday night on April 18th 2009, Pittsburgh anti-racists became aware of members of Keystone State Skinheads gathering in our city. Through our vigilance we were able to monitor the situation and collectively defend our streets.

Pittsburgh Anti-Racist Action has been monitoring Keystone State Skinheads, an organization primarily based in Philadelphia. This weekend's activities are among the boldest actions we're aware they've taken in the Pittsburgh area.

Statement on police shootings

Much has been said of the recent shootings in Pittsburgh involving a supposed white supremacist that resulted in the deaths of 3 police officers. We would like to provide information on the ideology of Richard Poplawski and his friends and to also express our anger at the hypocrisy of the media regarding the recent events.

Pittsburgh: $1000 raised for legal defense of imprisoned graffiti artist MF-ONE

This past Saturday, October 18th, the Greater Pittsburgh Anarchist Collective threw a fundraiser for imprisoned graffiti artist Daniel Montano, a.k.a. MF-ONE. We were able to raise $1000, which will greatly help with the cost of an appeal of his sentencing of 2 1/2 - 5 years in a Pennsylvania state prison.

Support arrested Pittsburgh ARA members!

On September 20th two Pittsburgh Anti-Racist Action members were arrested during a demonstration against Focus on the Family, a large right-wing Christian organization holding a rally at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were charged with disorderly conduct and later released. The arrests occurred after an assault by Mellon Arena security on the demonstration, involving security guards punching and kneeing participants and calling them "Faggots".

The demonstration, called by a newly formed group of anti-fascists named Pittsburgh Antifa, was to be an alternative to the coalition of faith-based GLBT groups' "Presence" outside the arena. The demonstration held by the coalition had strict guidelines, such as no taking to the streets, no yelling, no chanting, and numerous other requirements to participate in the "presence". The Antifa contingent, which consisted of radical queers, anarchists, and allies, sought a more confrontational approach and wanted to directly confront attendees about their homophobic and sexist views. When the group approached Gate 1 they were attacked by security, which resulted in two participants being arrested for disorderly conduct while trying to defend themselves. They received summons to appear in Pittsburgh City Court and will likely face fines and court costs. Both are low-income activists who need financial support. As a movement it is our responsibility to support those who fight for us and sometimes take the fall. We are all at risk of arrest at any time for our participation in radical movements and when one of us is attacked it is an attack on us all.
